The Big Short by Michael Lewis is the story of four outsiders in the world of finance who predict the credit and housing bubble collapse. With some inside knowledge, shrewd analysis and bold bets against the conventional wisdom, the shrewd investors make a fortune off of the ultimate collapse of the financial markets. In the aftermath of the financial crash, the main characters must grapple with the moral consequences of their investments and examine the consequences of their actions that contributed to the collapse of the world economic system. Ultimately, the book sheds light on the greed, mismanagement and systemic risk of Wall Street as well as how the economic system is built on faith, luck and a blind belief that markets can regulate themselves.
