The Art of Loving is a 1956 book by psychoanalyst and social philosopher Erich Fromm, which analyzes the concept of love in psychological terms. It is a combination of philosophical and psychological insight, and explores the nature of love and how it can be applied to relationships between people. The book is divided into three parts: Theoretical, Psychological, and Social. In the first part, the author examines different types of love, discussing the concept of eros, or physical desire; philia, or friendship; and agape, or selfless love. He then looks at how love can be seen as a skill, and how it can be acquired and developed. In the second part, Fromm goes into the psychological aspects of love, looking at how it is related to fear, guilt, and other emotions. Finally, in the third part, he examines the social implications of love, including its impact on society and its expression within relationships.
