Spoonface Steinberg is a short monologue written by British playwright Lee Hall for Radio 4 in which an 8-year-old autistic girl named Spoonface recounts her life experiences and coming to terms with her impending death. The story follows Spoonface as she talks about her loves: music, mainly classical, and her family; her pets; and her thoughts on life, death and spirituality. Spoonface’s frank and heartfelt engagement with life helps listeners to explore their own values through her words. Despite her terminal illness, her optimism and warmth sustain her as she learns that there is still beauty and love amidst her pain.
