Rich Dad Poor Dad is a 1997 book by Robert Kiyosaki which uses narrative to illustrate his message about the difference between financial intelligence and traditional educational intelligence. Kiyosaki’s thesis is that anyone can be successful in life by understanding how to create and manage money. He draws on his own experiences of being raised by two dads: his biological father (Poor Dad) who held a degree and worked for a professional job and a family friend (Rich Dad) who started his own business and invested wisely. Kiyosaki’s book highlights the different kinds of thinking that each father embodied and illustrates with stories how the right kind of financial intelligence can be learned through smart decisions and taking the opportunity to work with and learn from those that have already achieved success. He encourages readers to become financially literate, create passive income streams, invest for the long-term, and understand risk-reward scenarios.
