The Ramayana is one of the two major epic poems of ancient India, along with the Mahabharata. It is regarded as one of the greatest epics in the world, and has had a profound influence on Indian literature and culture. The Ramayana tells the tale of Rama, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, and his quest to rescue his wife Sita from the Rakshasa demon king Ravana. Along the way, Rama must battle a variety of creatures and villains, and rely on the help of friends and allies. The story culminates in a mighty battle between Rama and Ravana, with Rama victorious. The Ramayana has been a major influence on art and culture in South Asia for centuries, and is still widely read, recited and performed today.
