Noukadubi is a Bengali novel written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1906. The novel revolves around Gopinath, a young man from a wealthy family, who is shipwrecked during a storm and believed to be dead. Meanwhile, his look-alike, Ramesh, is mistaken for Gopinath and married off to Gopinath’s fiancée, Jyotsna. Gopinath is found alive but is unable to reveal his true identity and instead joins the family of Jyotsna’s father-in-law as a servant. Through his words and actions, Gopinath gradually wins over Jyotsna and her family and they eventually realize the truth. After a few obstacles, Gopinath and Jyotsna are reunited and the novel concludes with a joyous reunion of the two lovers.
