Life 3.0 is a book written by Max Tegmark, a professor of physics at MIT, that explores the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on humanity in the 21st century. Tegmark breaks down the three life-versions as Life 1.0 (Biological evolution), Life 2.0 (Human-directed technological evolution) and Life 3.0 (artificial intelligence). He delves into the potential risks and opportunities that come with a world governed and populated by intelligent machines, and the ethical, economical and even political issues that arise from it. Tegmark turns the discussion on its head by also looking at the possibility of an AI controlled universe not just being a threat but a potential boon to humanity, and examines the potential implications of such a universe. The book ends by looking at how humanity can prepare for the evolution of AI, and ways people can explore and experience the dawn of this age together.
