Kaffir Boy is the autobiography of Mark Mathabane, who was born in Alexandra, South Africa, to a large family living in extreme poverty. Raised under the oppressive regime of apartheid, Mark struggles to break free from the cycle of poverty and violence, and eventually escapes to the United States. Along the way, he experiences heartbreaking losses, moments of unimaginable cruelty, and the beauty of pure loving relationships. He must find strength in himself and within his culture to keep going and hope for a better life as he strives to become a successful writer and advocate for social justice.
