Summary of Harold and Maude

Harold and Maude is a black comedy about the unlikely, intergenerational relationship between the young, wealthy Harold and the eccentric, elderly Maude. Maude is an exuberant, free-spirited seventy-nine-year-old woman who lives life to its fullest, much to the disapproval of Harold's overbearing mother. Through their unlikely friendship, she guides Harold on his journey of self-discovery and encourages him to break out of his shell and find a purpose in life. Ultimately, Harold and Maude show that life is not bound by age or convention, but by our willingness to break the limits that we set for ourselves and others.
