Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysic of Morals, by Immanuel Kant, is an influential philosophical work in which the German philosopher attempts to explore the nature of morality. Kant explores the idea of moral duty, arguing that humans must act according to universal moral principles and that any form of self-interest should be subordinate to our moral duties. He outlines three fundamental principles of morality which he calls the categorical imperative.
