Fun Home is a graphic novel by Alison Bechdel that was published in 2006. It is a memoir of Bechdel's life, told through a combination of text and drawings. The story follows Bechdel as she reflects on her childhood, which was spent in a funeral home her father ran. Bechdel's father, Bruce, is at the center of the book and is depicted as a complex figureβa distant, controlling parent as well as a closeted gay man. As Bechdel grows older, she comes to understand her father's behavior, and her own sexuality, in a new light. The book uses a series of flashbacks to tell the story of Bechdel's life, and to explore themes of identity, family, and memory.
