Atheist Manifesto is a 2009 book by French philosopher Michel Onfray. It outlines and defends a materialistic, ontological, and metaphysical worldview grounded in philosophical atheism. The book has 12 chapters, the first five of which deal with the arguments for atheism, discussing topics such as the invalidity of the ontological argument, the inconsistencies of the Bible, as well as the meanings and implications of atheism. In the following chapters, Onfray explores philosophical atheism educational systems, sociology, epistemology, and moral systems. He finishes with a concluding chapter summing up his views and providing examples of "good atheist living". Onfray paints a picture of what he believes to be a morality applicable to an atheist society, arguing that human values should be sought and found exclusively within this world. He also seeks to debunk the notion of an inherent opposition between rationality and creativity, religion and science, nature and culture, which he believes narrows human potential. Onfray's manifesto is ultimately an effort to inspire humanity to look for meaning and ethics within the natural world, which he believes is the only source and path to a better life.
