Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery follows Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan who is sent to live with middle-aged siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert on their farm in the fictional town of Avonlea, Prince Edward Island. Despite their initial intention to adopt a boy to help them on the farm, Marilla and Matthew find themselves quickly charmed by Anne's vivid imagination and spunky personality. The story follows Anne as she grows up and strengthens her bond with her adoptive family, makes new friends, attends school, and experiences numerous adventures. Along the way, she faces and overcomes several obstacles, most notably overcoming her own insecurities and misconceptions about what it means to be happy, leading to self-discovery and personal growth.
