Animal Farm is a famous allegorical novel by George Orwell, published in 1945. It tells the story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer, hoping to create a society where the animals can be equal, free, and happy. As their experiment in animal self-governance progresses, the pigs, who are the cleverest of the animals, take up leadership roles. Soon, however, they become corrupted by power and amend the ideology of Animalism to denote a tyranny championed by the pigs themselves. The book is a scathing critique of totalitarianism and its effects, and it remains an important and relevant novel today.
