"A Vindication of the Rights of Woman" is a book written by Mary Wollstonecraft published in 1792. It is widely considered to be one of the earliest works of feminist philosophy and is one of the first major works of feminist literature. The book is a response to the prevailing attitudes towards women and calls for greater equality of the sexes. Wollstonecraft argues that women are not necessarily inferior to men and should be educated to take on a more active role in society. She uses examples from history and science to demonstrate that women are just as capable of intellectual pursuits as men. She also discusses the role of women in the family and argues that marriage should not be seen as an institution that limits the freedom of women. Wollstonecraft's work was revolutionary and helped to open the door for future generations of feminists.
