Stay rooted in the present moment from "summary" of You Are Here by Thich Nhat Hanh

To stay rooted in the present moment is to be fully present in the here and now, without being pulled away by regrets about the past or worries about the future. When we are rooted in the present moment, we are able to truly live our lives and experience all the wonders that are available to us in each moment. One way to stay rooted in the present moment is to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to what is happening in the present moment, without judgment. It is about being aware of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations as they arise, and allowing them to pass without getting caught up in them. Another way to stay rooted in the present moment is to bring our attention to our breath. Our breath is always with us, and by focusing on our breath, we can anchor ourselves in the present moment. We can feel the rise and fall of our breath, the coolness of the air as we inhale, and the warmth as we exhale. When we are rooted in the present moment, we are able to fully engage with whatever is happening in our lives. We are able to appreciate the beauty of the world around us, the love of those closest to us, and the joy that comes from simply being alive. We are able to let go of the past and the future, and instead focus on what is happening right now. Staying rooted in the present moment takes practice, but with time and dedication, it becomes easier. We can cultivate mindfulness through formal meditation practices, such as sitting meditation or walking meditation, as well as through informal practices, such as mindful eating or mindful breathing. By bringing our attention back to the present moment again and again, we can learn to fully experience the richness of life that is available to us in each and every moment.
