Reflections on the past from "summary" of The Road by Cormac McCarthy

The man often found himself lost in thought, his mind drifting back to a time when the world was not shrouded in darkness. Memories of a time when the sun still shone bright in the sky, when birds still sang in the trees, and when the land was not barren and desolate. He would think of the past with a mixture of longing and regret, wishing he could go back to a time when things were different, when he could have done things differently. But he knew that the past was gone, irretrievable and unchangeable. All he had left were memories, fragments of a world that no longer existed. He carried these memories with him like precious treasures, clinging to them in the darkness of the present. They were his only solace in a world that had been stripped of all beauty and warmth. Sometimes, as he walked the road with his son by his side, he would share these memories with him. He would tell him stories of a world that once was, a world filled with color and life. The boy would listen with wide-eyed wonder, unable to imagine a world so different from the one he knew. These reflections on the past served as a bittersweet reminder of what had been lost, a testament to the fragility of life and the impermanence of all things. They were a source of both pain and comfort, a way for the man to make sense of the world he now found himself in. And so, he carried these reflections with him, like a burden that he could not bear to set down.
