Being confronted with numerous choices can be exhausting from "summary" of The Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz

When we are faced with a multitude of choices, it may seem like a positive thing - after all, having more options theoretically increases the likelihood of finding the best fit. However, what we often fail to realize is that the abundance of choices can actually lead to decision fatigue and dissatisfaction. The more options we have to consider, the more mental energy we must expend in evaluating each one. This mental strain can be overwhelming, causing us to feel drained and even anxious. Moreover, the more choices we have, the higher our expectations become. We start to believe that there must be a perfect choice out there, and we become obsessed with finding it. This quest for perfection can be paralyzing, as we fear making the wrong decision and regretting it later. This fear of making the wrong choice can prevent us from making any choice at all, trapping us in a cycle of indecision. In addition to decision fatigue and heightened expectations, having numerous choices can also lead to a sense of regret. We may wonder if we made the right decision, or if a different choice would have been better. This hindsight bias can eat away at our satisfaction with the chosen option, causing us to second-guess ourselves and feel dissatisfied with our decision.
  1. The paradox of choice lies in the fact that while we believe that more choices will lead to greater happiness and satisfaction, in reality, the opposite is often true. The abundance of choices can overwhelm us, raise our expectations to unattainable levels, and leave us feeling regretful and dissatisfied. It is important to recognize the negative impact of excessive choices and strive to simplify our decision-making process in order to avoid exhaustion and discontentment.
