Joy is a natural state of being when we let go of ego from "summary" of The Little Book of Joy by Dalai Lama,Desmond Tutu

The essence of joy lies in our ability to transcend the limitations of our ego. When we are able to let go of our incessant need for validation and recognition, we create the space for joy to naturally arise within us. This state of being is not something that we need to strive for or chase after; it is our innate birthright, a fundamental aspect of our true nature. Ego, with its insatiable appetite for control and power, has a way of overshadowing our capacity for joy. It constantly seeks to assert itself, comparing and competing with others in a relentless pursuit of self-importance. However, when we learn to release our attachment to this false sense of self, we open ourselves up to a deeper, more profound sense of fulfillment. In the absence of ego, we are able to fully embrace the present moment, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. We no longer feel the need to prove our worth or seek approval from external sources. Instead, we are able to connect with others in a genuine and authentic way, free from the constraints of our own insecurities and fears. Letting go of ego does not mean suppressing our individuality or denying our personal needs. It simply means recognizing that our sense of self is not limited to the confines of our own desires and ambitions. By relinquishing our attachment to the ego, we open ourselves up to a greater sense of interconnectedness with all beings, tapping into a wellspring of joy that flows from a place of unconditional love and compassion. Joy, therefore, is not something that we need to acquire or achieve; it is a state of being that naturally emerges when we release ourselves from the confines of our own ego. In this state of pure presence and openness, we are able to experience the boundless beauty and wonder of life in its fullness.
