True happiness comes from within, not from external sources from "summary" of The Buddha Said... by Osho

The Buddha often emphasized the importance of looking within ourselves to find true happiness. He believed that relying on external sources for happiness was like trying to find water in a mirage - you may think you see it, but it will always elude you. According to the Buddha, external sources of happiness are temporary and fleeting. They may bring us pleasure for a moment, but this pleasure is short-lived and ultimately unsatisfying. True happiness, on the other hand, is lasting and comes from within ourselves. When we look within ourselves for happiness, we tap into a source that is always available to us. This inner happiness is not dependent on external circumstances or material possessions. It is a state of being that is cultivated through self-awareness, mindfulness, and compassion. The Buddha taught that the key to finding true happiness within ourselves is to let go of attachments to external sources of pleasure. When we detach ourselves from these sources, we free ourselves from the cycle of craving and dissatisfaction that keeps us trapped in a state of unhappiness. By turning our attention inward and cultivating a sense of inner peace and contentment, we can experience a deeper and more fulfilling sense of happiness. This inner happiness is not dependent on anything outside of ourselves - it is a state of being that is always accessible to us, no matter what external circumstances may arise.
  1. The Buddha's teachings remind us that true happiness is not something that can be found outside of ourselves. It is a state of being that is cultivated from within, through self-awareness, mindfulness, and compassion. When we learn to look within ourselves for happiness, we can experience a lasting sense of contentment and peace that is not dependent on external sources.
