Joy is an ongoing process, not a destination from "summary" of The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama,Desmond Tutu
Joy is not something that we achieve and then behold forevermore. It is not a place, a state, or even a feeling that we can hold onto. Rather, joy is a dynamic and ever-changing process that we must actively engage in. It is a journey that we must continue to embark upon, day in and day out, through both good times and bad. This concept of joy as an ongoing process challenges our societal conditioning that tells us we must constantly strive for happiness as if it were a destination to be reached. We are often led to believe that if we just achieve certain goals, acquire certain possessions, or reach certain milestones, then we will finally be happy and content. But this is a fallacy. Joy cannot be found in external circumstances alone. Instead, joy is something that we must cultivate within ourselves, regardless of our external circumstances. It is a way of being, a way of living our lives with gratitude, compassion, and resilience. It requires us to be present in the moment, to find contentment in the small things, and to connect with others in meaningful ways. This process of cultivating joy is not always easy. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments of despair along the way. But it is precisely during these difficult times that we must lean into our practice of joy the most. It is during these times that we must remind ourselves of the beauty and wonder that still exist in the world, despite the darkness that may surround us. By embracing joy as an ongoing process, we free ourselves from the burden of constantly chasing after happiness. We allow ourselves to find joy in the present moment, in the simple pleasures of life, and in the connections we share with others. Joy becomes not just a destination to strive for, but a way of being that enriches our lives and brings us closer to true contentment.Similar Posts
