Loving oneself means accepting and challenging oneself from "summary" of The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm

To love oneself is not simply to accept oneself as one is, but to accept oneself as one is, yet to recognize that one has the potential to grow. One must see oneself as capable of change and development, and must be willing to push oneself beyond one's comfort zone in order to realize this potential. This means acknowledging one's limitations and weaknesses, while also acknowledging one's strengths and possibilities. Accepting oneself does not mean settling for mediocrity or complacency. It means understanding one's true self, with all its complexities and contradictions, and being willing to confront and challenge oneself in order to become the best version of oneself. This requires a willingness to examine one's beliefs, values, and actions, and to be honest with oneself about where one falls short. Challenging oneself does not mean being self-critical or judgmental. It means setting high standards for oneself and holding oneself accountable for meeting them. It means being willing to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. It means being open to feedback and criticism, and using it as an opportunity for growth and self-improvement. To love oneself is to strive for self-actualization, to become the person one is capable of being. It is a lifelong journey of self-discovery and self-improvement, and it requires courage, commitment, and perseverance. But the rewards of self-love are great: a deeper sense of fulfillment, meaning, and purpose in life, and a greater capacity to love and be loved by others.
