Bhima's vow from "summary" of Mahabharat Ki Kahaniyan by Harish Sharma
In the great epic Mahabharata, one of the most powerful and fierce warriors is Bhima, the second Pandava brother. Known for his physical strength and valor, Bhima plays a crucial role in the Kurukshetra war. However, there is a particular incident that showcases not just his physical prowess but also his unwavering determination and sense of justice. This incident is known as Bhima's vow. During their exile in the forest, the Pandavas come across a lake where a powerful demon named Hidimba resides. Hidimba's sister, Hidimbi, falls in love with Bhima and seeks his help in defeating her brother. Bhima, being the brave warrior that he is, agrees to help Hidimbi. In the ensuing battle, Bhima emerges victorious, killing Hidimba and ensuring the safety of the people living in the forest. After the battle, Hidimbi expresses her desire to marry Bhima. However, Bhima, bound by his dharma as a married man, refuses her proposal. This act of rejection deeply hurts Hidimbi, but Bhima remains steadfast in his decision. Instead, he promises her that he will return to her after completing his duties as a husband and a warrior. Bhima's vow to Hidimbi highlights his sense of honor and duty. Despite Hidimbi's love for him and the temptation to stay with her, Bhima remains committed to his wife Draupadi and his responsibilities towards his family. This incident showcases Bhima's integrity and loyalty, qualities that define his character throughout the epic. As the story of Mahabharata unfolds, Bhima's vow to Hidimbi serves as a reminder of his unwavering commitment to his principles. It is a testament to his strength not just in physical terms but also in moral and ethical aspects. Bhima's vow is a significant moment in the epic that reflects the complexity of his character and the challenges he faces in upholding righteousness in the face of personal desires.Similar Posts
