Addiction affects individuals from all walks of life from "summary" of Drug Dealer, MD by Anna Lembke

Addiction doesn't discriminate based on social status, level of education, or profession. It affects everyone, from CEOs to janitors, from doctors to drug dealers. In fact, addiction can happen to anyone who is exposed to addictive substances or behaviors, regardless of their background or circumstances. This is a crucial point to understand because it dispels the myth that addiction only happens to certain "types" of people. In my practice, I have seen individuals from all walks of life struggle with addiction. Some of my patients were highly successful professionals who seemed to have it all, while others were living on the streets with nothing to their name. What they all had in common was the way addiction had taken over their lives and consumed their every thought and action. The reality is that addiction can happen to anyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status or personal history. It is a complex disease that doesn't discriminate based on race, gender, or age. This is why it's so important to approach addiction with compassion and understanding, rather than judgment and stigma. By recognizing that addiction affects individuals from all walks of life, we can begin to break down the barriers that prevent people from seeking help. We can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for those struggling with addiction, and work towards finding effective solutions that address the root causes of this widespread issue.
