Practice selfcompassion and kindness from "summary" of Dare by Barry McDonagh
When anxiety strikes, our first instinct is often to berate ourselves for feeling this way. We tell ourselves that we should be stronger, that we shouldn't be feeling anxious, that we are weak for succumbing to these feelings. But what if we approached ourselves with compassion instead? What if we treated ourselves with the kindness and understanding that we would offer to a friend in need?Self-compassion is the practice of being kind to ourselves, especially in times of struggle or suffering. It is about recognizing that we are human, that we are fallible, and that it is okay to feel anxious from time to time. Self-compassion means treating ourselves with the same empathy and care that we would offer to someone we love. It means acknowledging our feelings without judgment and offering ourselves words of comfort and reassurance. Kindness towards ourselves is also crucial when facing anxiety. Instead of engaging in negative self-talk or self-criticism, we can choose to speak to ourselves with warmth and understanding. We can remind ourselves that it is okay to feel anxious, that we are not alone in our struggles, and that we have the strength to overcome this challenge. By cultivating kindness towards ourselves, we can create a more supportive and nurturing inner dialogue that helps us navigate through moments of anxiety. Practicing self-compassion and kindness doesn't mean ignoring our anxiety or pretending that everything is fine. It simply means approaching ourselves with gentleness and care, recognizing that we are doing the best we can in this moment. It means being patient with ourselves as we work through our anxiety and offering ourselves the same compassion that we would offer to a dear friend. In this way, we can cultivate a sense of self-acceptance and resilience that helps us face anxiety with courage and grace.Similar Posts
