Attachment is source of misery from "summary" of Bhagavad Gita and Hinduism by Nilesh M. Shukla

Attachment can lead to suffering and misery in life if we invest ourselves too deeply in materialistic things. Too much attachment to the world of material possessions can create imbalance in our life and stop us from achieving spiritual enlightenment.
  1. Attachment is often associated with a sense of misery because it leads to fear when the attachment is lost or broken. The idea of being attached to something in life means that you depend on an external factor to bring joy and happiness.

  3. Suffering can arise if we think too much about our attachments. Being attached to people or things can cause us to be trapped in anxious and obsessive thoughts, which become extremely draining over time.
  4. Being attached to nothingness can give us freedom from any kind of pain that comes with attachment. Detachment from everything can help us to see things more clearly and objectively which eventually refreshes our mind.
  5. Attachment to objects, relationships and situations prevent us from evolving and growing emotionally. Consequently, instead of finding joy we end up being defined by the past and living in guilt.
  6. The practice of surrendering to whatever has been determined for you, despite having strong emotions helps to recognize what really matters in life and this would allow us to let go of any sort of distress experienced because of attachment.
  7. Allowing yourself to move towards something without being chained to it reduces the turmoil created through attachments. Open-mindedness rather than prejudices gives us hope that there could be possibilities to live freely and happily without any emotional suffering.
  8. Trying to cling to someone or something will make us lose ourselves in the process as we search for something to keep us afloat in the depths of our despair. We may even start engaging in negative behavior to ground us in some form of comfort.
  9. Steadfastness in certain principles such as sincerity, truthfulness, dedication and simplicity open us to unlimited potential of wisdom leading to detachment of worldly pleasures and attractions. This is an effective way of managing both emotional and mental grieve caused due to attachment.
