Collectivism from "summary" of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Collectivism is the idea that the group is more important than the individual. It is the belief that individuals should sacrifice their own needs and desires for the greater good of society. This concept is based on the notion that the collective is more important than the individual, and that individual rights should be subordinated to the needs of the group. In a collectivist society, the state has ultimate control over the lives of its citizens, dictating what they can and cannot do in the name of the common good. Collectivism promotes the idea that individuals exist for the benefit of the group, rather than the other way around. It advocates for the redistribution of wealth and resources from those who have more to those who have less, in order to achieve a more equal society. This can lead to a lack of incentive for individuals to work hard and excel, as their efforts are not rewarded in proportion to their contributions. In a collectivist society, individual freedom is severely restricted in the name of the common good. People are expected to conform to the norms and values of the group, and dissent or nonconformity is often punished. This can lead to a stifling of creativity and innovation, as individuals are discouraged from thinking outside the box or challenging the status quo.- Collectivism is a dangerous ideology that can lead to the erosion of individual rights and freedoms. It puts the needs of the group above the rights of the individual, leading to a society where conformity is valued over diversity, and where individuality is suppressed in favor of the common good. It is a system that stifles progress and innovation, and ultimately leads to the downfall of society as a whole.
