Surveillance and manipulation of citizens are omnipresent from "summary" of 1984, Animal Farm (Set of 2 Books) by Orwell George

In Oceania, the Party is always watching its citizens through telescreens that are present in every corner of every room. There is no escape from the watchful eyes of Big Brother, who sees and hears everything that goes on. The citizens are under constant surveillance, their every move scrutinized for any signs of disloyalty or dissent. Not only are the citizens watched, but they are also manipulated by the Party. Through the use of propaganda and manipulation of information, the Party controls what the citizens think and feel. They are fed lies and half-truths, making it impossible for them to discern reality from fiction. The Party's goal is to keep the citizens in a state of ignorance and fear, ensuring their unquestioning loyalty. The Party's manipulation extends beyond just controlling information. It also extends to controlling the very thoughts of the citizens. Through the use of Newspeak and thoughtcrime, the Party seeks to eradicate any form of independent thought or dissent. Citizens are conditioned to think in a certain way, to believe what the Party tells them without question. The Party's surveillance and manipulation of its citizens are all-encompassing. There is no aspect of life that is not touched by the watchful eyes and controlling hands of the Party. From the moment they wake up to the moment they go to bed, citizens are under the constant influence of the Party. Their thoughts, actions, and even emotions are not their own, but rather dictated by the all-powerful Party. In Oceania, freedom is merely an illusion, a concept that exists only in the minds of the oppressed citizens. The Party's surveillance and manipulation ensure that there is no room for dissent or rebellion. Citizens are kept in a perpetual state of fear and ignorance, their every move controlled and monitored. In this dystopian society, the Party reigns supreme, with its citizens mere puppets in its grand design.
